What is VIA-T?
VIA-T is the technology that allows you to pay at toll roads or parking with no need to stop your vehicle.
To use the electronic toll service, all you need to do is place the device in the windscreen and the amount will be charged to the credit card associated with your device.
Where can you use it?
- Spain: all toll roads that show the VIA-T kogo.
- South of France: toll roads with the "t" logo.
- Portugal: toll roads forming part of the Vía Verde system and on ex-Scut motorways.
- You can also pay at parking lots in Spain with a card reader and the VIA-T logo.
How does it work at toll roads?
- The VIA-T device from Openbank allows you to pay at toll roads, avoiding queues and waits, and in car parks in Spain with VIA-T signs.
- When you approach the toll area you must use one of the lanes with the VIA-T sign. With this device you can use a specific lane and do not have to stop the car.
- You must enter at a maximum speed of 40 km/h, respecting the safe distances.
- When you go through the toll arch a reader will detect the signal issued by the device, which will beep quietly when detected by the system.
- The traffic light will go green and the barrier will automatically rise, allowing you to continue your journey without having to stop.
- The cost of the toll will be charged to the credit card associated with the VIA-T device.
How does it work in car parks?
The VIA-T system is also available in some car parks in Spain, to make the process of paying for a stay easier.
There are car parks with VIA-T detection on exit, but in others, the device is read on entry and exit. They work as follows:
- For car parks with VIA-T detection on entry and exit, on entering the car park you do not need to take a ticket - you can enter and leave the car park without having to lower your window or go to an automatic pay station. If you have the VIA-T device but do not want to use it in the car park, you must remove it from your vehicle before you enter.
- For car parks with VIA-T detection on exit, take a ticket when you enter the car park and then park your vehicle. When you return, you don't need to use the automatic pay station. When you validate the ticket at the exit, the control system will do the rest. It will recognise your VIA-T and automatically open the exit barrier.

How do you pay and when will you be charged for the VIA-T?
- The amount of the toll or car park will be charged to the credit card associated with the VIA-T device, on the first business day of the following month, without commissions.
- You can see the transactions made using the card in your credit card position on the website, app or by calling us.
- It works in the same way as any other Openbank credit card.
Can I settle VIA-T payments in instalments?
Of course, you can choose the option that best suits you at any time.
Settle the payment of what you spend in fixed or variable instalments. The minimum you can repay in instalments is 5% of the credit limit of your VIA-T card, with a minimum instalment of €15.
The interest rate for financing your payment is 12.00% annual NIR, 14.69% APR.
Representative example (in accordance with the criteria established in Order EHA/1718/2010 of 11 June on the regulation and control of advertising services and banking products) for €1,500 drawn on the first day of the month, with financed payment option (revolving credit), and 48 fixed monthly instalments, on the assumption that there are no further drawdowns during that period or any breach of the terms and conditions of the agreement: 12.00% NIR, 14.69% APR; 47 instalments of €39.50 and a final instalment of €39.56. Total amount of credit: €1,500. Total amount owed: €1,956.06. Total cost of credit: €456.06; €396.06 interest + €60.00 issuance and renewal fees corresponding to a period of 4 years. Therefore, in the specific example, the purchase price in cash would be €1,560 and the total price in instalments would be €1,956.06. However, the user is hereby informed that, given that the maximum financing amount is €1,000, we consider the following amounts to be more representative: €500 drawn; 12.00% NIR, 18.80% APR; 47 instalments of €13.17 and a final instalment of €13.00. Total amount of the credit: €500.00. Total amount owed: €691.99. Total cost of credit: €191.99; €131.99 interest + €60.00 issuance and renewal fees corresponding to a period of 4 years.
These calculations include the €15.00 card issuance fee. As of the second year, the annual renewal fee of the VIA-T device is €15.00. This example does not consider the possibility of any new drawdowns from the line of credit or any non-payments during this period. The APR and the total amount to be paid are calculated on the assumption that the agreement will remain in force for the entire term and that the parties will meet their obligations under the agreed terms and conditions and repayment deadlines. The French amortization schedule has been used for this calculation.
Please note that the instalment chosen is intended, firstly, to pay the agreed interest and charges and, secondly, to repay the capital drawn down. As such, choosing reduced instalments could result in the credit being repaid only in a residual proportion.
Openbank recommends this service to be used responsibly.
